In 2022, a  project has been underway to identify water leaks at five of Futurum's properties. The project has been carried out using the Smartvatten service and has yielded very positive results.

The project has resulted in the discovery and repair of three significant leaks. All of these leaks have discharged into the sewer, making them challenging to detect without the Smartvatten service.

- The combined cost that these leaks would have imposed on Futurum, had they not been addressed, is estimated at approximately 9 000€ per year. The three leakages have resulted in a water volume of around 667 liters per hour directly flowing into the sewer. This equates to roughly 1,730 m3 of water in a year, says Mia Elvén, Energy and Sustainability Strategist at Futurum.

In the case of larger water leaks where the water does not flow into the sewer, there can be significant damage to the properties, leading to extensive costs and operational disruptions. With the installation of Smartvatten, leak alarms will be connected to Futurum's emergency response for immediate action in the event of major water leaks. This approach allows for limiting water damage, and consequently, cost and operational impact in the premises. Addressing water leaks is part of Futurum's work towards a sustainable future. Freshwater is a resource that we must collectively conserve.

During the first half of 2023, Smartvatten will be installed on all water meters in Futurum's property portfolio, which encompasses around 140 meters.

- The cost of the service is small in comparison to the cost of leaking water. Currently, we don't know about the existing leaks, but there are estimated to be quite a few hidden leaks that can be easily addressed before they cause damage. In this way, we save money and prevent water damage. We aim to take care of our properties in the best possible way, says Mia Elvén.

About Smartvatten and Futurum Fastigheter:

The pilot project has been conducted with Smartvatten, a service that identifies and alerts to ongoing water leaks and anomalies in water consumption. A device with a camera is attached to the water meter. The camera is connected to a small computer unit that continuously reads the meter every hour. The meter readings are saved in software and analyzed. Anomalies, such as leaks and abnormal consumption, can be identified in this manner.

Futurum Fastigheter i Örebro AB is a municipal real estate company, fully owned by Örebro Municipality through the Örebro Rådhus AB group. They own and develop environments where our children and youth spend a significant portion of their time.

Futurum's property portfolio consists of high schools, primary schools, preschools, and other properties. The other properties include six fire stations and several special accommodations.
