Celebrating World Water Day 2023

Celebrating World Water Day 2023

Back in 2015, the world committed to Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6) as part of the 2030 Agenda. It is the promise that ensures access to water and sanitation for all. We have only 7 years left to achieve the 2030 agenda and the current truth is that we are seriously off-track. If we want to reach SDG 6 on time, governments need to move on average four times faster than today. At Smartvatten we focus on water consumption in Real Estate and its potential to combat water scarcity.

It is time to accelerate change – to go beyond ‘business as usual’

On this year’s World Water Day, we reflect on the importance of water and what developments we need – not only to combat a rising water scarcity but to grant everyone access to clean water. At a time when water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource, it has never been more important to address water challenges and ensure the sustainable management of our water resources.

The impact of the blue planet

Water plays a vital role in every aspect of human life.  Sustainable water management decides if we reach not only SDG 6 for the 2030 Agenda, but also our aims concerning hunger, gender equity, health, education, livelihoods, sustainability, and ecosystems. Our economy depends on water for shipping, fishing, or cooling of production sites, access to water impacts the independency of women and water is the crucial factor in climate change, linking the climate system, societies, and the environment.

Poor water management can lead to increased competition and trigger water-related crises of various kinds.

Towards sustainable water management for water utilities – or why data matter

Water Utilities around the world maintain countless pipes, pumping stations and treatment plants to ensure the quality and efficiency of our water networks. This is certainly no easy task. With aging networks and limited resources for repairs, renovation and maintenance, utilities need all the information they can get to make informed decisions about where to allocate their resources.

Smartvatten for Water Utilities provides water utilities with an industry-specific application whose automatically generated analytics and tools help address day-to-day challenges and verify the functionality of the sewer network.

We collect, combine and analyze all available data from the wastewater network. We offer a user-friendly, digital and cloud-based software service with customized solutions for specific needs. By integrating our application into daily operations, we gain meaningful insights about the network that not only help detect extraneous water inputs but also anomalies such as leaks and blockages in time.  The goal of our interdisciplinary team, comprised of software developers and urban water managers, is to provide a product that allows water utilities to focus on problem solving rather than getting lost in problem searching. Our development focus is on creating a positive user experience to ensure easy and intuitive software handling.

We at Smartvatten care deeply about the well-being of our blue planet. We truly believe that water-efficient managed water utilities contribute greatly to solving the global water challenge. Therefore we work hard every day together with our customers to build an ecosystem made of cooperation, intelligence, technology, and services.
